Madhya Pradesh's Mohan Yadav government has approved a proposal worth ₹771.13 crore to upgrade 73 health centres across the state, just six days after Chief Minister Mohan Yadav himself had rejected the same proposal in a cabinet meeting.

Cabinet Clears Proposal at Jagdishpur Meeting

The decision was taken at a special "destination cabinet" meeting held on Sunday in Jagdishpur, a town of historical significance in Bhopal district. Under the plan, the number of beds at these health centres will be increased and new buildings constructed. Recruitment will also take place for 1,600 regular posts, 71 contractual posts, and 560 outsourced positions.

The same proposal had first been brought before the cabinet on 14 July, when the Chief Minister sent it back, saying that doctors should first be recruited at those health centres where buildings and posts had already been sanctioned earlier. During that meeting, the CM had also briefed ministers on rainfall patterns across 23 districts, noting that Indore, Neemuch, Dewas, Burhanpur, Bhind, Sehore, Agar-Malwa and Harda had received above-normal rainfall, while Alirajpur had recorded extremely scanty rainfall, and asked officials to keep monitoring the situation.

Facilities to Be Upgraded Across Four Tiers

The upgrade will be carried out in stages:

29 sub-health centres will be converted into six-bed primary health centres
19 primary health centres will be upgraded to 30-bed community health centres
18 community health centres will become 50-bed civil hospitals
7 community and civil hospitals will be expanded into 100-bed civil hospitals

₹1,460 Crore Released Under Crop Insurance Scheme

Chief Minister Dr Yadav also released ₹1,460.25 crore to 10.54 lakh farmers across the state under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana (crop insurance scheme), covering losses to Kharif crops insured in 2025. The Chief Minister said the government stands with farmers in every circumstance. Agriculture Minister Edal Singh Kansana stated that a total of ₹30,942.34 crore has been disbursed under the scheme between 2016-17 and 2024-25.

Ten Ministers Absent, Including Lakhan Patel

Ten ministers, including Minister of State (Independent Charge) Lakhan Patel, did not attend the cabinet meeting. Patel's animal husbandry portfolio was recently taken away and he now holds the Department of Happiness (Anand Vibhag) instead, leading to speculation that he is displeased, though he has made no public statement on the matter. Other cabinet ministers who were absent included Tulsiram Silawat, Uday Pratap Singh, Narayan Singh Kushwaha, Pradyuman Singh Tomar, Rakesh Shukla and Chaitanya Kumar Kashyap.
