The fourth quarter-final of the Asian Games 2026 men's cricket tournament has also been called off because of rain. This ends Malaysia's campaign and sends Bangladesh into the semi-final, where they will face Pakistan.
Bangladesh were bronze medallists at the previous edition, while Pakistan returned empty-handed. A win over Bangladesh would now allow Pakistan to secure at least a silver medal.
Semi-finals on 1 October
India will play Sri Lanka in the second semi-final. The quarter-finals involving India and Sri Lanka were also abandoned, and both teams progressed as the higher-ranked sides, while Nepal and Afghanistan were knocked out.
The semi-finals will be played on 1 October, and the gold and bronze medal matches on 3 October.
All four quarter-finals washed out
Two quarter-finals were scheduled at Nishin's Korogi Sports Park on Monday: Pakistan vs Hong Kong and India vs Afghanistan. Both were abandoned without a toss because of rain. Pakistan and India advanced to the semi-finals from the respective matches.
The third and fourth quarter-finals were due to be played at the same venue on Tuesday: Sri Lanka vs Nepal and Bangladesh vs Malaysia. Both were also abandoned without a toss because of rain. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have been sent through to the semi-finals from the respective matches.
Semi-finals at the same venue
Both semi-finals are to be played at Nishin's Korogi Sports Park. With the entire quarter-final phase washed out, concern remains among the teams, organisers and cricket fans about the semi-finals. The final and the bronze medal match are also scheduled at the same venue.
