Three Dead, Four Injured After Car Hits Private Omnibus on Trichy–Chennai Highway in Perambalur

Three people died and four others were injured on Thursday morning when a car collided with a private omnibus on the Tiruchirappalli (Trichy)–Chennai National Highway (NH-38) near Thuraimangalam in Tamil Nadu's Perambalur district.

According to the report, the car, which was travelling at speed, rammed into the rear of a private omnibus ahead of it. The front of the car was badly damaged in the impact. Three occupants of the car died, some at the spot and one during treatment, while four others, including two women, were seriously injured. The occupants were returning to Chennai after attending a wedding.

Police said Karthi, 38, a native of Oriyaval village in Mudukulathur, Ramanathapuram district, worked in Chennai. He had travelled to his hometown with his wife, Surya, and friends from his village to attend a wedding. After the ceremony, Karthi, his wife and the friends set off for Chennai by car.

Police said the car was near Thuraimangalam on the Trichy–Chennai highway when it lost control and hit the omnibus in front. Perambalur Town Police reached the spot soon after being informed. With the help of local people, they pulled the injured from the vehicle and sent them to Perambalur Government Hospital.

Kaja, also known as Kaliswaran, a resident of Oriyaval, and Prabhakaran, a resident of Rasikulam, died at the spot. Karthi was seriously injured and died during treatment at the hospital.

The other injured, namely Karthi's wife Surya, the car driver Kannadasan, John Kennedy and Saranya, are being treated at Perambalur Government Hospital. Given Surya's serious condition, doctors have referred her to a larger hospital in Tiruchirappalli for better treatment.

Police have taken the bodies into custody and sent them for post-mortem examination. Perambalur Town Police have registered a case and are questioning the omnibus driver, Rajaseelan, a resident of Thoothukudi, to establish the cause of the accident.
