Gwalior's Phoolbagh-Gurudwara Road closed for 2 months from June 19 due to elevated road construction. Check new traffic diversion plan.

Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh: Commuters in Gwalior are in for a tough two months. Starting June 19, the busy Phoolbagh to Gurudwara stretch — one of the city's most heavily used roads — will be completely shut to traffic from both directions for approximately two months, owing to ongoing elevated road (flyover) construction work in the area. The city's traffic police have issued an official advisory urging residents to plan their routes accordingly.
The closure is directly linked to the construction of an elevated road (elevated corridor) underway on this stretch. With the work entering a critical phase, authorities have decided to seal the road entirely to ensure both construction progress and public safety.
With the diversion in place, traffic pressure is expected to rise significantly on the Moti Tabela–Moti Mahal stretch and on the route from LIC Tiraha toward Padav ROB. Daily commuters who pass through this corridor are likely to face considerable inconvenience, and authorities are bracing for heavy traffic snarls.
The stretch from Moti Tabela to near Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple is already lined with illegally parked handcarts, vendors, and vehicles on both sides of the road. Shopkeepers have placed tables and chairs on footpaths, forcing other vehicles to park on the road itself — effectively blocking half the road at any given time.
Cloth vendors and food stalls regularly occupy the Hathi Gate area, where the road is already narrow. Managing this section is the responsibility of traffic police, and simply issuing an advisory is unlikely to be enough.
A major concern is the stretch between LIC Tiraha and Padav ROB, where a bottleneck already forms even with normal one-directional traffic. When diverted traffic from both roads converges here, conditions are expected to worsen considerably — requiring dedicated traffic personnel posted at this point to manage the flow.
Here is the alternate routing plan issued by the Gwalior Traffic Police:
Route 1: Vehicles coming from Phoolbagh toward Gurudwara and Nadi Gate will be diverted at Phoolbagh Chowraha. They will travel via Lal Bal Pal Marg → Hathi Wala Gate → Moti Tabela → Nadi Gate.
Route 2: Vehicles coming from Padav Bridge toward Nadi Gate will be diverted at LIC Tiraha and routed through Moti Mahal → Moti Tabela → Nadi Gate.
Route 3: Vehicles coming from Inderganj, Ram Mandir, and Chhaparwala Bridge heading toward Phoolbagh will take a U-turn from Gurudwara via Shinde Ki Chhavani, then proceed through Moti Tabela → Moti Mahal.
Route 4: Vehicles from Ramdas Ghati heading toward Phoolbagh will be routed via Naugaza Road.
Gwalior residents are advised to check the diversion map carefully, allow extra travel time, and avoid the Phoolbagh–Gurudwara corridor entirely until construction work is completed. Traffic police are expected to deploy personnel at key bottlenecks, but removing encroachments along alternate routes remains critical for the plan to work effectively.
