The banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on a Pakistan Coast Guard camp in Gwadar, Balochistan, alleging that more than 30 security personnel were killed and several others injured. Neither the Pakistani government nor its military has officially confirmed the claim so far.
According to a report by The Balochistan Post, the separatist group said the attack was carried out on Friday by its elite Majeed Brigade. The BLA claimed a suicide bomber, identified as Ataullah Baloch alias Azmal, drove an explosives-laden truck into the heavily guarded coast guard camp at around 6.32 pm local time, triggering a huge blast.
BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said the powerful explosion reduced the coast guard's fortified colonial-era camp to rubble. The group's media wing, Hakkal, released a 43-second video purportedly showing the truck packed with explosives entering the camp moments before the blast. The BLA said subsequent footage showed a large section of the military camp had been destroyed.
In its statement, the BLA said its forward unit, the Fateh Squad, moved in swiftly and in an organised manner immediately after the suicide attack, assaulting the wrecked camp from all sides. The group claimed its fighters then engaged in close combat with the remaining coast guard personnel, killing more than 30 Pakistani security personnel in the process. The BLA spokesperson added that, given the critical condition of the injured and those trapped under debris, the casualty figure was highly likely to rise further. The group said it would release full details of the attack through its official channels in due course.
No Confirmation From Pakistan Yet
The BLA reiterated that its fight against Pakistani security forces would continue until what it calls the complete independence of Balochistan is achieved. However, neither the Balochistan Liberation Army nor the Pakistani government has issued any official statement clarifying the death toll or independently verifying the group's claims so far.
