US President Donald Trump has questioned the legitimacy of the result of Brazil's presidential election, saying it looked like a rigged election. He made the remark after President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva defeated Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, and did not offer any concrete evidence.
Ahead of the 2026 US midterm elections, Trump also announced on his social media platform Truth Social that anyone who provides information that helps expose election fraud and get those responsible punished will be given a reward of 1 million dollars (10 lakh dollars).
Trump Says Brazil Presidential Election Looked Rigged
Speaking to reporters while leaving for an election rally, Trump criticised the vote-counting process in Brazil and the Supreme Court's decision to extend polling time by two hours.
Trump said that although he had not taken anyone's side, the election looked like another rigged election. He said elections should be free of disputes, but the way votes were counted and polling time was extended at the last moment was very strange.
1 Million Dollar Reward for Exposing Voter Fraud
Alongside his comments on Brazil's election, Trump made a formal announcement on Truth Social. He said anyone who provides information about voter fraud in past elections or the upcoming midterm elections will be given a reward of 1 million dollars.
However, the reward will be paid only if the guilty person is arrested and convicted.
Flavio Bolsonaro Hands Over Passport
Meanwhile, Flavio Bolsonaro, son of Brazil's former president Jair Bolsonaro and the candidate who lost the election, has refused to accept the result. He is taking legal routes to have the election declared invalid.
Following a Federal Police order, Flavio Bolsonaro handed over his passport after meeting his father. His father is currently under house arrest. Flavio has clearly denied any plan to flee the country.
