Udaipur: A shocking case has come to light in the Bhupalpura police station area, where a young man from Jharkhand living in the Ayad Chhipa Mohalla locality was murdered by his own roommate — a teenage boy. After stabbing his friend to death, the minor stuffed the body into a wooden trunk and attempted to flee by train towards Jharkhand. Acting on an alert from local police, the Ajmer Government Railway Police (GRP) and a special team intercepted the minor at Ajmer railway station. Police are now carrying out a detailed investigation into the case.
Bhupalpura station house officer Ratan Singh Chauhan said the incident took place around 1.30 am on Wednesday night. The victim, 21-year-old Ajay Paswan, hailed from Bahri town in Ratehad district, Jharkhand, and had been living in the Ayad area with fellow migrant workers, earning a living as a labourer. The minor, who shared a room with him, had reportedly asked Ajay to return to Jharkhand with him. When Ajay refused, an argument broke out between the two. In an intoxicated state, the minor allegedly slit Ajay's throat with a knife, killing him on the spot. He then hid the body inside a wooden storage trunk before setting off for Jharkhand.
After boarding a train from Udaipur towards Jaipur, the accused called his labour contractor to inform him he was heading back to Jharkhand. The contractor grew suspicious of the sudden late-night call and sent other workers to check the room. On discovering bloodstains in the room and the body hidden in the trunk, the workers alerted the police. Police recovered the body around 3 am and had it moved to the mortuary at MB Hospital, while also informing the victim's family. A post-mortem was conducted on Thursday, following which the body was handed over to the family.
Police swiftly deployed a special team to intercept the train and alerted the GRP in Chittorgarh, Bhilwara and Ajmer. Due to overcrowding aboard the train, the accused could not be traced at Chittorgarh or Bhilwara, but a GRP team lying in wait at Ajmer station managed to detain the minor and hand him over to the Udaipur police team. He has since been brought back to Udaipur, where questioning is ongoing.
