One man died after a fire broke out at a house in Moti Nagar in west Delhi in the early hours of Saturday, followed by the explosion of an LPG cylinder, officials said.

According to officials, fire crews reached the spot after receiving information about the blaze and began firefighting and rescue operations.

Call received around 3.25am

According to the Delhi Fire Service, the call about the fire was received between about 3.25am and 3.27am. Fire crews were sent to the spot immediately. Given the situation, one water tender, one breathing apparatus fire tender and one water bowser were dispatched.

Firefighters began dousing the flames on arrival. A preliminary inquiry found that the fire had started on the ground floor of the house. An LPG cylinder kept inside the house was caught in the fire and then exploded, officials said.

Body found after cylinder explosion

Officials said firefighters found a man dead at the spot after the cylinder exploded. The fire service confirmed the death of one person at around 4.30am. A crowd gathered in the area after news of the incident spread.

House searched after fire brought under control

Fire crews brought the blaze under control after a prolonged effort. They then checked inside and around the house to make sure no one else was trapped. They also inspected areas where the fire could have flared up again.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established. Police and other departments concerned are investigating the circumstances of the incident, including the condition in which the LPG cylinder was caught in the fire and why it exploded. Officials said one key line of inquiry is how the fire started on the ground floor and what caused the cylinder to blast.
