US and Iran agree to historic peace deal to end conflict. Strait of Hormuz to reopen following official signing scheduled for this Friday.

In a historic diplomatic breakthrough, Iran and the United States have agreed on a comprehensive peace deal to end ongoing hostilities.
US President Donald Trump announced the agreement's successful conclusion, which has since been acknowledged by Iranian officials.
However, Tehran has maintained a cautious stance. Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, stated that Iran will only engage in the proposed 60-day dialogue process once it verifies that Washington has fully honoured its commitments to end the conflict, lift the blockade, and unfreeze Iranian assets.
According to Iranian state media outlet Press TV, the official signing of the accord will take place this Friday, after which the text of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be made public.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who played a key role in the diplomatic efforts, confirmed that the formal signing ceremony will be held in Switzerland on 19 June.
Sharif revealed that following intensive negotiations, both nations have agreed to an immediate and permanent cessation of all military activities across all fronts. He also extended his gratitude to Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye for their crucial intermediary roles.
Deputy Foreign Minister Gharibabadi emphasised that Iran has successfully incorporated all of its core positions into the draft agreement. He explicitly noted that this deal does not signal a newfound trust in the United States.
"This agreement is not a symbol of trust in America. Tehran will continuously and rigorously monitor the implementation of US commitments," Gharibabadi warned.
Trump Hails 'Historic Achievement'
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to announce the finalisation of the deal. Trump confirmed he has authorised the toll-free reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and ordered the immediate lifting of the US naval blockade.
Trump stated that the agreement would restore peace and security to West Asia and pave the way for reopening the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz immediately after the formal signing this week.
In his post, Trump labelled the deal an extraordinary success, noting that whilst multiple previous US presidents had attempted to broker peace with Iran, they had all failed.
