Bhopal: Active pre-monsoon systems are sweeping across Madhya Pradesh, bringing down summer temperatures ahead of the monsoon's arrival.

The Meteorological Department in Bhopal has placed the state on high alert, predicting heavy rainfall and severe storms over the coming days.

The capital, Bhopal, and Gwalior are expected to be hit by substantial rainfall over the next 48 hours, with gusty winds forecast to reach speeds of 50 to 60 km/h. Concurrently, an Orange Alert has been issued for five districts, warning residents of impending severe thunderstorms.

Severe Weather Warnings and Rainfall Forecast
As pre-monsoon activity intensifies, the weather bureau issued an Orange Alert for Monday, warning that high-velocity winds are expected to strike Sehore, Rajgarh, and Agar-Malwa districts.

A total of 30 districts are under a weather watch for anticipated rainfall:

  • Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, and Ujjain
  • Vidisha, Chhindwara, Narmadapuram, Shivpuri, Sheopur, Bhind, and Morena
  • Datia, Ashoknagar, Anuppur, Guna, Betul, Raisen, and Khandwa
  • Harda, Burhanpur, Shajapur, Dewas, Ratlam, Mandsaur, and Neemuch
  • Pandhurna, Dindori, Balaghat, Seoni, and Mandla

Intense Heat Persists in 22 Districts
In contrast, the advancing weather systems have not yet reached eastern and western pockets of the state. Clear skies and intense sunshine are projected to persist in 22 districts, with no rainfall predicted for these areas.

Districts expected to remain dry: Jabalpur, Khargone, Narsinghpur, Singrauli, Sidhi, Sagar, Satna, Shahdol, Barwani, Alirajpur, Umaria, Rewa, Maihar, Mauganj, Tikamgarh, Damoh, Chhatarpur, Katni, Niwari, Panna, Jhabua, and Dhar.

The current spell of pre-monsoon activity has already broken the intense summer heat across several major urban centres. Maximum temperatures in five key cities—Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain, and Jabalpur—have now dropped below the 40°C mark. Shivpuri has emerged as the coolest location in the state, registering a maximum daytime temperature of 33.2°C.

While the mercury continues to hover at or above 40°C in Khajuraho, Datia, Nougaon, and Mandla, meteorologists state that the intensity of the summer has weakened across most of the state. The pre-monsoon systems are expected to consolidate further, bringing sustained rain and relief in the days ahead.
