Raipur: The upcoming Unity Mall (Ekta Mall) in the Pandri area of the capital city is set to revolutionise the market for rural goods produced across Chhattisgarh. Once operational, the mall will provide a permanent commercial platform for a flagship product from every district of the state. This initiative will enable self-help groups, local artisans, weavers, and small-scale entrepreneurs to showcase and market their goods on par with major commercial brands.

A Gateway from Local to National Markets

In line with the national blueprint for Unity Malls being constructed across India, the Raipur facility is designed to become a pivotal hub connecting local items to national and interstate markets. In the coming years, the Pandri Unity Mall will evolve beyond a standard shopping complex, serving as a powerful economic platform that establishes a national identity for Chhattisgarh's homegrown brands. Construction on the project is currently progressing at a rapid pace.

Construction Progress Closely Monitored

The progress of the mall's construction is being strictly monitored at the highest administrative level. Monthly review meetings are being conducted by senior officials to track development, with contractors explicitly instructed to accelerate construction without compromising on quality. In a recent review, Chief Secretary Vikas Sheel set a firm deadline for the project's completion by December.

Central Government Releases ₹100 Crore in Funding

The Central Government has sanctioned a total of ₹200 crore for this ambitious project, with an advance payment of ₹100 crore already released to the state. The initiative directly aligns with the Prime Minister's vision of the "One District, One Product" (ODOP) scheme.

Key Features of the Unity Mall

According to official sources, the mall will feature dedicated display areas and sales counters tailored to the unique specialities of each district. High priority will be given to:

  • Bastar’s celebrated bell-metal art
  • Kondagaon’s traditional terracotta crafts
  • Kosa silk textiles
  • Forest-produce-based items
  • Millets and organic herbal products
  • Handicrafts produced by women’s self-help groups

This setup will offer consumers a convenient, single-roof shopping experience showcasing the very best of Chhattisgarh’s cultural identity.

Managed on the Successful C-Mart Model

Plans are underway to manage the Unity Mall along the lines of the state’s highly successful C-Mart model. A strong emphasis will be placed on contemporary branding, high-quality packaging, and strategic marketing to ensure that rural commodities can compete effectively in larger markets. This structured approach is expected to secure better profit margins for local producers whilst generating new employment opportunities in the region.

A New Hub for Trade and Tourism

Senior officials have noted that the Unity Mall will serve as much more than a mere retail outlet. The complex is being developed to host exhibitions, facilitate business-to-business (B2B) networking, and act as a major tourist attraction. It will provide a vibrant window for interstate buyers and tourists to immerse themselves in the rich culture, art, and unique heritage of Chhattisgarh.
