Bhopal monsoon delayed by 6 days; heavy rain expected June 25. IMD warns of 43°C heat today. Thunderstorms forecast for Tuesday.

The wait for the southwest monsoon in Madhya Pradesh is stretching beyond expectations, with weather officials now indicating a six-day delay in its arrival. Widespread heavy rainfall across Bhopal and most parts of the state is now expected to begin around June 25.
In the meantime, residents are finding some relief through pre-monsoon showers. Brief spells of rain hit parts of Bhopal, including the Kolar area, on Sunday afternoon between 2:30 and 3:00 PM, offering temporary respite from the heat and humidity and nudging temperatures slightly lower.
Heavy Rain on the Way for Tuesday
A developing weather system is set to bring thunderstorms and heavy showers to Bhopal on Tuesday. Several other districts — including Indore, Ujjain, Vidisha, Sehore, Rajgarh, Dewas, Ratlam, and Neemuch — are forecast to see similar conditions. Districts such as Narmadapuram, Betul, Khandwa, Khargone, Mandla, Shahdol, Jabalpur, Umaria, Balaghat, and Chhindwara, however, are likely to remain dry and hot.
Heat and Wind Advisory in Effect
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued advisories for strong winds of 35–40 km/h across 37 districts today, including Jabalpur, Khandwa, Narmadapuram, Betul, and Balaghat. Cities like Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Sagar, and Morena are bracing for peak temperatures between 40 and 43 degrees Celsius.
Rainfall Deficit Across Madhya Pradesh
The IMD reports that 45 of the state's 55 districts are currently experiencing a rainfall shortfall. Alirajpur has received no rain whatsoever this season. Bhopal, by contrast, has logged roughly four inches of rain — the highest recorded anywhere in the state so far.
With June 25 now in sight, residents across Madhya Pradesh are hopeful that the delayed monsoon will finally deliver the relief the region so urgently needs.
