Heavy rainfall continued to batter Delhi-NCR through Thursday morning, following overnight downpours that left several parts of the region waterlogged. Roads across Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad were submerged, causing major disruptions to daily commutes, even as the rain brought relief from the heat.
Fresh IMD Alert
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, warning that heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in several areas on Thursday, with winds expected to blow at speeds of 30 to 50 km/h. The department has advised residents to exercise caution in waterlogged areas and step out only if necessary.
Gurugram Worst Hit
Gurugram bore the brunt of the rains, with two consecutive days of continuous rainfall flooding several parts of the city, including the service lane of the Delhi-Jaipur highway, Narsinghpur, Basai, Kadipur, and Sohna Road. In some areas, water levels rose so high that vehicles stalled in the middle of the road. Commuters returning home late Tuesday night were stuck in traffic jams for hours, with some reaching home only after five to six hours.
Delhi and Noida Also Affected
In the capital, waterlogging was reported at ITO, Ring Road, Najafgarh, and other low-lying areas. Noida's Film City and surrounding roads also saw flooding, leading to long queues of vehicles during the morning school and office rush. In several places, commuters had to wade through waterlogged stretches.
Rainfall Figures
According to IMD data recorded till 4:15 am Thursday, Pusa received the highest rainfall at 66 mm, followed by Lodhi Road at 65 mm, Mehrauli at 63 mm, Mayur Vihar at 57 mm, Chhatarpur at 47 mm, Narayana and Najafgarh at 42 mm each, and Janakpuri and Pragati Maidan at 34 mm each. Ghaziabad and Greater Noida also received significant rainfall overnight.
