Sukhbir Singh Badal Attacked with Kirpan Inside Nanded Gurdwara, Security Guard Also Injured

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) national president and former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal, was attacked inside a gurdwara in Nanded, Maharashtra. According to police, a Nihang allegedly attacked Badal with a kirpan inside the gurdwara. Badal sustained an injury to his hand in the incident and has been admitted to hospital for treatment. Police have taken one person into custody in connection with the case.

According to reports, Sukhbir Singh Badal arrived in Nanded on Wednesday on a three-day visit along with his family and close aides. On Thursday, he was present at Gurdwara Sahib with his wife and SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal when the Nihang allegedly attacked him with a kirpan.

Badal and the security personnel who came to his aid were seriously injured in the attack. Both were immediately admitted to a nearby hospital, where treatment is ongoing. Panic and chaos broke out inside the gurdwara premises following the incident.

Cloth seen tied around hand in video

A video from after the attack is going viral on social media. It shows Sukhbir Singh Badal walking into a building, with a saffron-coloured cloth tied around his right hand. It is understood that this is the hand that was injured in the attack.

Nanded police take one person into custody

Nanded police confirmed the incident, stating that a Nihang attacked Sukhbir Singh Badal with a kirpan inside the gurdwara. Police have taken one person into custody following the incident and are questioning him. Police are now investigating the cause of the attack and the full sequence of events.
