Pathankot Road Accident: Bus Mows Down Four, Two Dead; Enraged Mob Sets Vehicle on Fire

Two people were killed and two others seriously injured in Pathankot, Punjab, on Wednesday morning after being run over by a bus that went out of control. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. Following the accident, angry locals created an uproar and later set the bus on fire.

According to reports, a speeding bus travelling on the Pathankot-Jalandhar National Highway suddenly went out of control on Wednesday morning. The runaway bus then ran over four people standing by the roadside. Two of the victims died on the way to hospital, while two others were left critically injured. The scene turned chaotic in the aftermath, with furious bystanders venting their anger by setting the bus alight. Police reached the spot as soon as they were alerted, and the Nangal Bhur police station is investigating the case.

Bus was travelling from Jalandhar to Jammu

The accident occurred at around 10 am. The bus was travelling from Jalandhar to Jammu when the driver reportedly lost control near Kaunterpur. In the process, a scooter, a motorbike and two pedestrians standing by the roadside were struck. The injured were rushed to hospital immediately, but two of them died en route. The other two are undergoing treatment and remain in a critical condition. The deceased have been identified as Ranjit Singh and Arun Kumar, both residents of Kaunterpur.

Driver and conductor flee the scene

Eyewitnesses said the bus driver and conductor fled the scene after the accident, further fuelling the crowd's anger, which led to the bus being torched. Locals said the stretch of road has seen several accidents in the past, but no effective action has been taken against bus operators by the authorities.

SP Gurikbal Singh, who reached the site, said preliminary investigations point to reckless driving as the cause of the accident. Police are searching for the absconding driver and conductor.
