Jharkhand Election: In Jharkhand, BJP, Congress, CPI(M), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bahujan Samaj Party, and National People's Party, along with three regional parties - Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, AJSU Party, and Rashtriya Janata Dal, are mainly in the electoral fray.
The Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, is leading a 12-member team from the Election Commission of India to review the preparations for the Jharkhand Assembly elections and hold discussions with political parties. The team, which arrived in Ranchi on Monday morning, includes Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Suhbir Singh Sandhu, Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Dharmendra Sharma, Nitesh Vyas, Manish Garg, and Deputy Election Commissioner Sanjay Kumar. This team will hold five marathon meetings over two days.
The first meeting is being held at Hotel Radisson Blu in Ranchi, where the Chief Election Commissioner is meeting with representatives of major political parties. Six national parties - BJP, Congress, CPI(M), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bahujan Samaj Party, and National People's Party - and three regional parties - Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, AJSU Party, and Rashtriya Janata Dal - have been invited to the meeting. Each party has been given 12 minutes to present their views.
In the afternoon, the Election Commission's team will meet with officials from 21 enforcement agencies. This will be followed by a meeting with the state's Chief Electoral Officer and nodal officers to discuss voter lists, booth allocation, polling party formation, and adherence to the model code of conduct, among other issues.
In the evening, the Chief Election Commissioner will meet with the state's Chief Secretary and DGP. On Tuesday, the Election Commission's team will meet with all IGs, DIGs, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, SSPs, and SPs of the state from 9 am to 2 pm. The Election Commission will likely announce the election dates for Jharkhand anytime in October after reviewing the situation and holding meetings during this two-day visit.
