A man was killed and his brother critically injured after neighbours attacked them with knives outside their home in the Raj Park area of Mangolpuri, in Outer Delhi, police said Tuesday.

Police said the attack occurred while the two brothers were outside their house. Four to five people arrived at the scene and stabbed both men, allegedly over an old dispute with the neighbours. Local residents rushed the injured brothers to hospital, where doctors declared 45-year-old Mahesh dead. His brother remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment. The attackers fled the scene after the incident.

Mahesh's wife told reporters that the two brothers had been outside their home because a family elder had died, and that the neighbours attacked them at that time. She said the families had a dispute a year earlier, and that this was not the first attack — she claimed her husband's sister and another brother-in-law had been targeted in two previous incidents. She also alleged that police had taken bribes and were not acting on the case.

The injured brother said the neighbours had attacked him first, and that Mahesh was killed while trying to intervene to protect him. He has demanded police action and said the neighbours want the family to sell their house and leave.

Police from the Raj Park police station reached the spot after being informed and began an investigation; the district DCP also inspected the scene. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and questioning witnesses. A case has been registered under murder and attempted murder charges, among other sections. Multiple teams are conducting raids at possible hideouts to arrest the accused, who remain at large. Officials said they expect to make arrests soon.
