Rajasthan recorded its heaviest rainfall of the past 24 hours in Banswara district, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing yellow and orange alerts for several districts between 1 and 5 August, warning of heavy rain, thunder and strong winds as the monsoon remains active heading into August.
Kushalgarh records highest rainfall in the state
The highest rainfall in the state over the past 24 hours was recorded in Kushalgarh, Banswara district, at 7 cm. Uda, Danpur and Sajjangarh in Banswara, along with Jiyola and Sarwar in Ajmer district, each recorded 5 cm of rainfall. With the weather department forecasting rain for the next five days, heavy showers are expected across Rajasthan as August begins.
Orange alert for 2 districts, yellow alert for 22 districts on 1 August
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for 1 August in Banswara, Dungarpur, Salumbar, Udaipur and Barmer, warning of heavy rain, thunder and lightning, and winds of up to 40 km/h. A yellow alert for rain, thunder and lightning, and similar wind speeds has also been issued for Chittorgarh, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Sikar, Balotra, Bikaner, Churu, Didwana-Kuchaman, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Pali, Phalodi and Sri Ganganagar. Meanwhile, an orange alert for extremely heavy rain, thunder and lightning, and strong winds of up to 40 km/h has been issued for Sirohi and Jalore.
On 2 August, a yellow alert for rain, thunder, lightning and winds is in force across 20 districts, while an orange alert for extremely heavy rain, thunder and strong winds applies to Barmer and Jalore.
On 3 August, a yellow alert for thunder, lightning and winds has been issued for Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Deeg, Dholpur, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Khairthal-Tijara, Kotputli-Behror, Sirohi, Balotra, Barmer, Bikaner, Churu, Didwana-Kuchaman, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Pali, Phalodi, Sri Ganganagar and Sikar.
On 4 August, a similar yellow alert covers Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Deeg, Dholpur, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Khairthal-Tijara, Kotputli-Behror, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, Sikar, Bikaner, Churu, Didwana-Kuchaman and Sri Ganganagar.
On 5 August, scattered rain is expected in the Bharatpur, Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur and Bikaner divisions.
Rainfall pattern across the state
Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder was recorded at scattered locations in the eastern part of the state, with heavy rain at one or two places. In the western region, gusty winds accompanied by thunder brought light rainfall at scattered locations.
IMD's weather outlook
The monsoon is expected to remain active over most parts of the Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer and Udaipur divisions of eastern Rajasthan for the next 5-6 days, with moderate to heavy rain likely at scattered locations. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected at scattered places in the Udaipur division and surrounding districts during this period.
In western Rajasthan, rainfall activity is expected to increase in parts of the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions from 31 July. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is also expected at scattered locations in the southern parts of the Jodhpur division between 31 July and 2 August.
