Three people, including an eight-year-old boy, have died in two separate electrocution incidents in Chhattisgarh's Kabirdham district, plunging local villages into mourning.
Father and son killed on farmland
In the first incident, in Birnapur Kala village under Sahaspur Lohara police station limits, a farmer and his son were electrocuted after coming into contact with an electric fence wire laid across the edges of their field.
According to reports, farmer Gokaran Patel (55) had gone to the field with his son Paresh Patel (22) to sow paddy. As the field was waterlogged due to recent rain, Paresh accidentally touched the live wire and was electrocuted. His father Gokaran rushed to save him but was also caught in the current, and both died on the spot.
When the pair failed to return home, family members went to the field and found the bodies, alerting other villagers. The power supply was cut off, but by then it was too late. Police reached the scene, carried out the necessary procedures, and sent both bodies for post-mortem examination. An investigation is under way.
Eight-year-old boy electrocuted in Kawardha
In a separate incident in Nagatola Mathpur village under Kukdur police station limits, an eight-year-old boy named Shravan Baiga died after coming into contact with a live earthing wire connected to an electricity pole, allegedly due to negligence on the part of the electricity department. The child, son of Mahgu Baiga, was electrocuted while playing near the pole and died instantly. The tragedy has left the entire village in shock.
Police launch investigation
Kukdur police reached the scene after being alerted and took the body into custody before sending it for post-mortem examination. Police and the relevant department are investigating how current came to be flowing through the earthing wire. Villagers have accused the electricity department of negligence and demanded action against responsible officials, along with adequate compensation for the victim's family.
