Rain Turns Deadly

The death toll from torrential rain in Shimen County of China's Hunan province has risen to seven. The victims lost their lives due to landslides and floods triggered by the heavy rainfall. Local authorities have warned that the number of casualties may rise further.

14 People Missing

Fourteen people remain missing in Shimen County, Hunan province, as a result of the torrential downpour, according to local officials. The county's Emergency Management and Production Safety Committee has confirmed this figure. Rescue teams are searching for the missing, though the ongoing rain and widespread flooding have been hampering search and rescue operations.

Infrastructure Damage

The heavy rainfall began at 7 o'clock on Sunday morning. This is the first major spell of heavy rain in the county this year, and it has caused considerable damage to local infrastructure. Several houses and buildings have also been damaged. Efforts are underway to carry out repairs and ensure the supply of daily essentials for affected residents.

50 Million Yuan Allocated for Emergency Relief

The National Development and Reform Commission has released an emergency allocation of 50 million yuan (approximately 70 crore rupees) from the central government's investment budget to support relief operations following the landslides and floods caused by the heavy rainfall in Hunan province. The funds are being used to supply disaster relief materials to those affected, including summer blankets, folding tables and chairs, and household emergency kits. This will assist local authorities in resettling affected residents, providing relief aid, and meeting their basic needs. The relief materials have been allocated by the Office of the National Commission for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Relief, the MEM, and the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration.
