A major accident occurred on Tuesday in Khilchipur, Rajgarh district, Madhya Pradesh, amid preparations for the Dol Gyaras festival. A 34-year-old man got trapped in a drain while laying slabs on a culvert at the Jal Mandir complex on the Gadganga river. As soon as the news spread, administration and police teams reached the spot and carried out a rescue operation using a JCB machine for around one and a half hours. Despite all efforts, the man could not be saved.
According to information, Beeram, son of Ballabh Mogiya (34), a resident of Thawariya Bazar in Khilchipur, was working on laying slabs on the culvert at the Jal Mandir complex on the Gadganga river around 11:30 am on Tuesday morning. It is being reported that the work was being carried out for the municipal council through a private employee engaged via a contractor. During this work, the man suddenly got trapped in the drain.
On being informed of the accident, the SDM, SDOP, police station in-charge and Naib Tehsildar, along with other administrative officials, reached the spot. A JCB machine was used in the effort to pull the man out. Police and rescue teams continued their efforts, but the man trapped in the drain could not be brought out alive.
As news of the accident spread, a large number of people gathered at the site. The administration immediately launched a rescue operation. Attempts were made using the JCB to clear a path around the drain and pull the man out. After a rescue effort lasting around an hour and a half, the man died.
According to preliminary information, the slab-laying work was being carried out in the municipal council area ahead of the Dol Gyaras event, and was being executed through a private employee engaged via a contractor. The circumstances under which the man got trapped in the drain, and what safety arrangements were in place during the work, are subject to investigation. Following the accident, questions are also being raised over the work arrangements and safety measures in place.
