Surat: Dumas police detained eight young women and 14 young men after raiding a high-profile birthday party where a liquor session was underway at a farmhouse in Bapuji Ki Wadi, within the Dumas police station limits, late at night. Those present at the party were aged between 21 and 27 years, and included businesspeople, students, salaried employees and unemployed individuals. Police recovered bottles of foreign liquor from the spot, along with boards and charts for various drinking games that were being used to make people drink.

Arrived in expensive luxury cars

Assistant Commissioner of Police Shweta Daniel said the birthday party of a young makeup artist was being held at the farmhouse. Those attending arrived in expensive luxury cars. Dumas police received information around 2.30 am, after midnight, based on which the farmhouse was raided. Half a dozen liquor bottles and beer cans were seized from the spot, and eight young women and 14 young men were detained. Police are now investigating who rented the farmhouse, for how much money, and for what purpose. The farmhouse owner has also been called in for questioning.

Ludo dice decided who drank how much

Instead of the usual way of drinking, different games had been set up for the party. On a board resembling Ludo, the numbers that came up on a dice throw decided how much alcohol a person had to drink. The board carried rules such as "short drink", "two short drinks", "youngsters drink", "everyone drinks" and "ladies drink".

"Blackout" and "Shots and Ladders" games also found

Police also found a drinking board called "Blackout" at the spot, which listed drinking tasks such as "take a shot", "finish your drink", "guys drink" and "ladies drink", along with instructions for activities including "truth or dare" and "group selfie". A "Shots and Ladders" board, designed along the lines of snakes and ladders, was also found, numbered from 1 to 49. While moving forward on a dice throw, some squares carried tasks such as "take a shot", "give a shot" and "truth/dare". Landing on a ladder meant climbing up, while landing on a snake's mouth meant going down.

Rules for drinking based on playing cards too

A chart called "Card Roulette" was also found at the party, which set out drinking rules based on playing cards. If an ace turned up, the rest of the group had to drink; a queen meant all the women had to drink; a king meant all the men had to drink; and a jack meant the group had to take a shot together. Other tasks included identifying the colour of a card, making someone laugh, or finishing an entire peg.

De-addiction centre just 50 metres away

The most striking detail is that the farmhouse where the liquor party was taking place is located around 300 metres from the police station and just 50 metres from a de-addiction centre. Burnt liquor bottles were also reportedly found outside the farmhouse.
