The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (BSER), Ajmer, has finally ended a prolonged period of ad-hoc and acting leadership that stretched over four years. Newly appointed permanent chairman Hanuman Singh Rathore arrived in Ajmer on Monday and formally assumed charge of the office.
Upon his arrival at the board office, officials, employees, and ministerial staff gave Rathore a warm welcome. The premises resonated with the sound of drums, flower petals were showered on him, and he was garlanded in a ceremonial reception.
Before taking charge, the new chairman offered prayers at the Shiva temple located within the board campus, seeking blessings for a successful tenure. He officially assumed his seat at the auspicious time of 11:55 AM, with his entire family present to witness the occasion.
NEP Implementation a Top Priority
Speaking to the media shortly after taking charge, Rathore made his priorities clear — stating that his main focus would not merely be on announcing exam results, but on bringing about comprehensive improvement in the quality of education.
He announced that board examination papers would be fully restructured in alignment with the new parameters of the National Education Policy (NEP), to reduce rote learning and enhance students' analytical and reasoning abilities. He also indicated that upcoming RBSE textbooks would be revised to incorporate India's national identity, glorious history, and cultural heritage more prominently.
Rathore further stated that teachers and evaluators across the state would be given special training to help them understand and adapt to the new examination pattern.
Direct Engagement with Teachers and Staff
The chairman praised the existing staff, noting that the board's employees and officers are experienced. He also pointed out that he himself had previously served as a member of this board, making him well acquainted with its functioning and requirements.
He emphasised that continuous direct communication would be maintained with teachers and administrative staff to improve board results and elevate Rajasthan's education standards to match those of the country's leading states. Value-based education, fostering national thinking and a sense of responsibility towards the country, would also be woven into the curriculum.
In a warm gesture, Rathore personally distributed sweets to local schoolchildren who had come to the office to celebrate the occasion, and encouraged them for their future.
On Past Controversies
When the media raised the issue of controversies that have surrounded the board in recent years, Rathore responded candidly. He stated that the Board of Secondary Education is a highly respected and constitutionally strong institution, and that the institution itself was never embroiled in controversies — rather, it was the decisions and conduct of certain individuals who had come to it that had given rise to problems.
He assured that no room for any such unpleasant situations or controversies would be left in the future, pledging to work on the principles of better coordination and teamwork. Transparency and timely action, he said, would be the cornerstones of the board's new work culture.
No Need to Travel to Ajmer for Documents
In a major relief for students from remote and rural areas, Rathore announced that students from any part of the state would not need to make repeated trips to the Ajmer headquarters for minor documents or migration certificates.
The board already has authorized Student Support Centres operating at the divisional and district levels. The new chairman directed that these centres be made more streamlined and digitally enabled, so that students can receive all necessary documents and services within their home districts in a timely manner.
