Madhya Pradesh: Yellow Alert Issued as Heavy Rain Forecast for Six Districts

The monsoon has become fully active across Madhya Pradesh, though its pace currently remains sluggish. Most districts are expected to see thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds, while rainfall continues in several areas. The State Meteorological Centre in Bhopal has issued a yellow alert for all districts of the state for today, Monday, 27 July 2026. Six districts have been placed under a heavy rain warning, while the remaining districts can expect thunderstorms with winds gusting at 30 to 40 kilometres per hour.

From an agricultural standpoint, good rainfall at this time would be a blessing for farmers, though the relatively low rainfall seen in most areas so far has heightened concerns. Paddy sowing is underway alongside the cultivation of other seasonal crops, and a pickup in rainfall would prove beneficial for farmers.

Heavy rain alert for six districts

According to the Meteorological Department, Balaghat, Mandla, Dindori, Anuppur, Shahdol and Umaria districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall today, with estimates ranging between 64.5mm and 115.5mm. As with the rest of the state, these districts may also experience thunderstorms with winds of 30 to 40 km/h. The department has advised residents in the affected districts to remain cautious and to check weather updates before stepping out, particularly in areas expecting heavy rain.

Two weather systems active

The shift in weather conditions has been attributed to an active pressure area and the monsoon trough, which is currently passing over Sheopur, Datia and Sidhi districts in Madhya Pradesh. These weather patterns have kept moisture levels high across the state, resulting in light to heavy rainfall in several districts.

Meteorological Department's advisory

In light of the rain and thunderstorm conditions, the Meteorological Centre has specifically advised farmers to ensure proper drainage arrangements in their fields, as excess water can also damage crops. It also urged farmers to cover harvested crops and fodder securely with tarpaulins. The general public has been advised to avoid standing under trees, in open fields, or near electricity poles during lightning, to take shelter in secure, solid structures when weather conditions worsen, and to avoid stepping outdoors during heavy rain unless absolutely necessary — and even then, to exercise full caution.
