Coast Guard, Gujarat ATS Seize Drugs Worth Over Rs 3,000 Crore From Iranian Boat in Arabian Sea; 5 Pakistani Nationals Apprehended

The Indian Coast Guard, in coordination with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Gujarat, has seized approximately 526 kg of narcotics valued at over Rs 3,000 crore in the international market, officials said. The narcotics were seized after the Coast Guard intercepted an Iranian dhow (boat) in the Arabian Sea, west of Lakshadweep.

According to the Coast Guard, the seized contraband comprised heroin and methamphetamine. Five Pakistani nationals operating the vessel were apprehended.

Dhow intercepted after intelligence input

The operation was carried out on 25 September on the basis of actionable intelligence. The Coast Guard conducted coordinated sea-air surveillance, tracked the suspicious vessel and launched a hot pursuit before boarding the dhow.

Vessel and crew taken to Mumbai

The vessel, the apprehended crew and the seized contraband were then escorted under armed security to Mumbai for joint interrogation and further legal proceedings.
