NIT Student Dies by Suicide in Indore

A 20-year-old first-year B.Tech student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Hyderabad, died by suicide at his home in Indore's Gaurinagar locality on Thursday. The incident has left his family devastated.

The student, identified as Rajkumar Kushwaha, had been distressed over alleged threats from senior students at the institute, who reportedly warned him that they would not let him study or pass his examinations.

Rajkumar's family had taken an education loan of six lakh rupees to fund his engineering studies in Hyderabad. Unable to cope with the harassment, he gradually fell into depression.

After returning home to Indore's Hiranagar police station area, he told his parents everything. The family tried to reassure him that quitting his studies was not a wrong decision and that he could stay home and pursue any work he chose. However, Rajkumar remained consumed by one persistent worry — how the six-lakh-rupee education loan would ever be repaid. His family encouraged him, saying they would work hard together and gradually clear the debt.

His family had been keeping a close watch on him due to his deteriorating mental state and were not leaving him alone. However, on Thursday, they stepped out of the room for just five minutes — and during that brief window, Rajkumar took the tragic step. When the family returned and found him, they rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police stated that all aspects of the case are being investigated. If evidence is found to support the family's allegations of harassment, appropriate action will be taken accordingly.
