US Vice President JD Vance, defending the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, has said President Donald Trump will never let the current military confrontation with Iran turn into a war that goes on forever.
Vance answered questions and criticism about the US military operation at a Fox News town hall in Fort Worth, Texas. He assured people that the American military will first achieve the objectives set for it. After that, he said, the administration will turn its attention to other domestic and global priorities.
Vance: I Understand Frustration Over Military Interventions in Middle East
At the town hall, a Republican voter asked Vance directly whether the Trump administration was keeping its election promise to end costly, never-ending wars abroad.
In reply, Vance said he fully understood the frustration of American citizens over foreign military operations in the Middle East.
Referring to his own military experience, Vance said he served in Iraq as a member of the Marine Corps. He said he is therefore well aware of the hardships of the battlefield and the damage caused when conflicts drag on for a long time.
Vance: Iran War Will Not Become an Endless War
Vance said the US has been engaged in military activity against Iran in some form for the past seven months. However, he said, America has in fact been dealing with Iran for 47 years.
He promised that Donald Trump would never let the situation become an endless war that drags on for years without a concrete result.
Vance said opposing long, foreign military interventions does not mean that military force should never be used.
Vance: Focus Will Shift to Other Priorities Once Objectives Are Met
Vance said President Trump's approach is entirely practical and focused on results. He said Trump's main focus is on achieving America's objectives.
Once these are met, the administration will direct its energy and resources to other important issues linked to the interests of the country and its citizens.
