Rajasthan continued to see unsettled weather for a second straight day on Saturday, with Ajmer recording rain since early morning. Around 6 am, a wall of Arya Putri Balika School on Plaza Cinema Road came crashing down, damaging five cars belonging to tourists that were parked nearby. No injuries were reported in the incident.
According to reports, rain had been falling intermittently through the night in Ajmer city. At around 6 am, the wall of Arya Putri Balika School on Plaza Cinema Road collapsed suddenly, damaging five cars parked close by. It is reported that a live electric current from a nearby pole caused the wall to crack before it gave way. The tourists whose vehicles were affected were staying at a hotel opposite the school at the time of the collapse.
A driver was asleep inside one of the cars when the wall fell. He escaped without injury, waking with a start as the wall came down and rushing out through the door. The damaged cars carry Maharashtra and Gujarat registration numbers. As the hotel where the tourists were staying had no parking facility, the vehicles had been parked along the school wall.
Ajmer's temperatures dipped after a spell of good rain. The minimum temperature fell by 3.5 degrees Celsius over the past 24 hours, recorded at 20.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday morning. The district recorded 24mm of rainfall in the same period. Ajmer's average seasonal rainfall to date should stand at around 390mm, but the district has already recorded 443mm this season — about 53mm above normal, though still lower than last year's tally.
Per the Meteorological Department's weekly forecast, rainfall activity in Ajmer district could pick up over the coming days. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder may occur in parts of the district until 7 September, with temperatures likely to fluctuate as conditions change. However, rain activity is expected to ease between 8 and 14 September.
