Justin Greaves Creates History with Five Wickets in Five Maiden Overs Against Pakistan

Trinidad: A remarkable feat unfolded during the first Test between West Indies and Pakistan at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad, as West Indies medium-pacer Justin Greaves produced a spell for the history books, dismissing five Pakistani batters without conceding a single run in the closing stages of the hosts' first innings.

Five Consecutive Maidens, Five Wickets

Bowling from the 64th to the 72nd over, Greaves sent down five successive maiden overs, dismantling Pakistan's middle and lower order by removing captain Shan Masood, Aamir Jamal, Ali Usman, Mohammad Rizwan and Abbas Afridi in the process. It marked the all-rounder's maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket, and remarkably, it is understood to be the first instance in Test history at this venue of a bowler claiming five wickets without conceding a run.

West Indies had earlier posted 311 in their first innings. In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 282, with Masood contributing a fine century of 109 and Imam-ul-Haq adding 63. However, the tail collapsed dramatically, with the last six batters managing just 36 runs between them. Rizwan scored 12, Khurram Shahzad made 19, while Mohammad Abbas departed without troubling the scorers. Babar Azam chipped in with 23.

Greaves finished with figures of 5 for 27 from 11 overs, including six maidens, his final five overs all going for nought. Shamar Joseph and Kemar Roach picked up two wickets apiece, while Jayden Seales claimed one.

West Indies Extend Their Lead

By the close of play on day three, West Indies had reached 126 for 7 in their second innings, with Roach unbeaten on 5 and Joseph on 22. The hosts now hold an overall lead of 155 runs.
