Fifteen people were injured on Monday morning when a passenger bus travelling from Indore to Lalitpur collided head-on with a truck at Peerghat, beyond Khimlasa, in the Bina tehsil of Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh.
The crash occurred at around 6am under the jurisdiction of Khimlasa police station. The impact was so severe that the front of the bus and the truck's cabin were badly damaged, sparking panic and screaming among passengers at the scene.
More than fifteen passengers were injured in the collision, including Hariram Prajapati (50), a resident of Lalitpur; Guddubai, wife of Manikchand Kurmi, also from Lalitpur; and Uma, wife of Ashok Tiwari, from Ujjain. Three of the injured were taken to Bina Civil Hospital, while others sought treatment at various other hospitals.
On receiving news of the accident, Flying Squad (FRV) personnel rushed to the spot. Pilot Rajdhar and Khalak Yadav from Bhangarh police station, along with Khimlasa FRV pilot Amit and home guard Devendra Rajput, joined the rescue effort. With the help of police and local residents, arrangements were made to send all the injured to hospital promptly.
Pilot Rajdhar said several passengers had suffered serious injuries, though he noted it was fortunate that, despite the severity of the crash, no lives were lost.
Traffic on the Peerghat route was briefly disrupted following the accident, but Khimlasa police quickly cleared the road and restored the flow of traffic.
Station in-charge Radheshyam Patel said some of the injured had gone to different locations for treatment, and efforts were under way to trace them. Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident, with excessive speed or the possibility of the driver being under the influence of alcohol among the factors not being ruled out at this stage. The precise cause is expected to become clear once the investigation is complete.
