Jaipur: Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, free solar rooftops of 1.1 kilowatt (kW) capacity will be installed on 96,500 homes in the Jaipur Discom (power distribution company) area from next month. Consumers whose monthly electricity consumption is below 150 units have been identified for this. Jaipur Discom has prepared an action plan for installation in all its 18 circles. Work orders have also been issued to nine firms. The target is to complete installation by March 2027.

Under the scheme, solar rooftops will be installed on the homes of a total of three lakh consumers across the state's three power distribution companies. In the first phase, work will begin in Jaipur Discom. Installation will then be carried out at the homes of identified consumers in the Ajmer and Jodhpur Discoms. Consumers' consent will also be taken before the solar rooftops are installed.

Discom responsible for maintenance for 10 years

The special feature of the scheme is that, along with the free installation of solar rooftops, their maintenance will also be the Discom's responsibility. These 1.1 kW solar rooftops will be maintained for 10 years. Consumers will therefore not have to spend separately on maintenance after installation.

80 per cent of solar rooftops to be installed in rural areas

The number of consumers using less than 150 units of electricity a month is small in urban areas. For this reason, about 80 per cent of the solar rooftops to be installed under the scheme are planned for rural areas. A target of producing 106 megawatts of green energy from these solar rooftops has been set in the Jaipur Discom area.
