Iraq's Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Legal Affairs, Shorsh Khalid Saeed, met Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Kazem Ale Sadeq. At the meeting, Iraq sought an explanation over the posts.

Both sides also discussed strengthening bilateral ties, including increasing mutual visits, coordinating on international platforms, and expanding cooperation in political, economic and security matters. Emphasis was placed on moving forward with the interests of both countries' peoples in mind.

Iran and Iraq are neighbours who have cooperated on several matters in the past. However, the dispute over the Gulf's name and the maps has created friction between them. Iraq's government has said such official posts send the wrong message.
