Two unidentified bodies were discovered on Sunday by the roadside near former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag's school on Gurugram Road in Jhajjar, Haryana, sparking alarm in the area.
The bodies, found partially undressed and lying one on top of the other close to the Sehwag International School, bore severe injuries to the head and face. Given the seriousness of the discovery, teams from Sadar police station and the CIA (Crime Investigation Agency) staff arrived at the scene to begin investigations.
Murder suspected, not a road accident
Initial inquiries suggest this was not a road accident but a case of double murder. Investigators believe the victims were killed elsewhere and their bodies were then transported by vehicle and dumped along the Jhajjar–Gurugram road, roughly a kilometre from the Dulina police post, in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence. Tyre marks found at the scene lend weight to the theory that the bodies were brought there in a vehicle.
Suspicious items recovered; chemical use being examined
A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team that reached the site has gathered key evidence, including an iron spanner, a pipe and a blue drum. Investigators suspect the drum may have been used to carry petrol, diesel or another hazardous chemical, and forensic testing is now under way to establish whether these items are linked to the killings.
Police attempt to identify the victims
According to police, the victims appear to have been aged between 35 and 45, and were found roughly five metres from the road. Neither has yet been identified. To trace their identities, officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the highway and surrounding areas in search of suspect vehicles or individuals, circulating descriptions to neighbouring districts and police stations, and cross-checking the details against recent missing-persons reports.
