Petrol Bomb Hurled at BJP Office in Punjab’s Sangrur, Police Launch Investigation

A petrol bomb was hurled at the district office of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Sangrur, Punjab, prompting heightened security in the area and a swift investigation by Punjab Police. According to initial reports, unidentified individuals threw the petrol bomb from the roadside late at night, damaging part of the office's boundary wall. Police and other security agencies rushed to the scene following the incident, cordoned off the area and began their inquiry. Officials said they are examining footage from nearby CCTV cameras to identify those responsible.

Attack occurred late at night, boundary wall damaged

Police believe the attack took place late at night or in the early hours, around 3am, though the exact timing will only be confirmed once CCTV footage has been fully reviewed. A police team that reached the scene carried out a detailed inspection of the site. Sangrur's Superintendent of Police (SP-D), Davinder Attri, said he, along with the DSP and the officer in charge of Sangrur police station, arrived at the spot and launched an investigation. He confirmed that a beer bottle filled with petrol had been used as the makeshift petrol bomb. Police have collected evidence from the scene and begun further investigation.

BJP leaders question law and order situation

A local BJP leader said the office caretaker informed him of the fire on Monday morning and sent photographs of the damage. He then promptly alerted Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon about the incident. Party workers and police arrived at the scene soon after being informed. BJP leaders strongly condemned the attack, alleging that law and order in Punjab has been steadily deteriorating. They claimed that incidents such as explosions at police stations and attacks on political offices have increased in recent times, raising concerns over the state's security arrangements, and demanded strict action against the culprits from the state government.

Police confident of swift arrests

SP-D Davinder Attri said an FIR was being registered against the accused and that they would be arrested soon. He added that police are examining CCTV footage and probing the case from every angle. Officials said legal action would be taken against those involved as soon as they are identified. Police have not ruled out any possibility and the investigation is ongoing, with security agencies also monitoring the case closely to uncover the full conspiracy behind the incident.
