Pali: Around 250 people are reported to have fallen ill after a feast in the Pyara Chowk area of Pali city on Friday night. Many, from children to the elderly, had to be taken to hospital after complaining of vomiting and diarrhoea. Several children were kept under special observation because of their serious condition.

According to information received, a large number of people had eaten at a feast held at Chhipon ki Dhal in the area. After around midnight, they began complaining of vomiting and diarrhoea. The number of people falling ill rose quickly, and families started bringing them to hospital. A rush of patients at the trauma centre of Bangar Hospital in the city meant additional doctors had to be called in.

Children's condition worsens, hospital arrangements stepped up

Children made up a large number of those who fell ill, which added to the worry of families. According to doctors, some children were in a serious condition, while many others were suffering from stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea. Given the rising number of patients, treatment arrangements were made at other hospitals in the city besides Bangar Hospital. It has been reported that 41 patients were admitted to Bangar Hospital and 12 to the General Hospital.

Additional doctors deployed at trauma centre

The hospital administration had to call in additional doctors to handle the crowd of patients. According to Dr OP Suthar, principal and controller, 15 doctors were given additional duty. Professors were also called in from the medical college. Patients were admitted to the trauma centre and other wards, and treatment was started.

Cause to be confirmed after investigation

According to initial information, the food served at the feast is being considered a possible cause of the illness. However, the actual cause can be confirmed only after an investigation. The quality of the food and the conditions in which it was prepared will be important to examine.
