MP Weather: Heavy Rain Lashes Bhopal, Indore and Several Districts as Multiple Weather Systems Turn Active

Madhya Pradesh is once again in the grip of an active monsoon spell, with most parts of the state receiving heavy showers over the past two days.

Rain that began late on Monday night has continued in most districts, including the state capital Bhopal, where intermittent showers persisted through the day.

Sidhi district's Majhauli tehsil recorded the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours, logging 124.4 mm.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the spell of rain will continue across the state for the next four days, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in 15 districts over the next 48 hours.

Sidhi and Raisen see the heaviest impact

According to the weather department, Sihawal in Sidhi district recorded 118.6 mm of rain in the past 24 hours, while Gairatganj in Raisen district received 118 mm. Mauganj recorded 109.0 mm, Rajgarh 103.0 mm, Devri in Sagar 96.3 mm, Khurai 78.0 mm and Banda 74.0 mm. Devri in Raisen recorded 72.1 mm, Chachaura and Kumbhraj in Guna 70 mm each, Raisen town 66.6 mm, and Ganj Basoda in Vidisha 65.8 mm. Bhopal continued to see light to moderate showers through the night, with 45 mm recorded by evening, and intermittent rain persisting into Wednesday morning.

Moderate rain across several districts

Most districts in the Gwalior, Sagar, Rewa, Shahdol, Jabalpur and Indore divisions received moderate rainfall, causing temperatures to drop by up to four degrees. Farmers, who had been anxious about protecting their standing crops, are relieved by the rain, and the remaining sowing work is now expected to pick up pace.

Multiple systems to stay active for 48 hours

The monsoon is expected to remain active across the state for the next 24 to 48 hours. A cyclonic circulation over north-eastern Madhya Pradesh, a trough passing through the state, and moisture influx from Chhattisgarh and the Bay of Bengal are together driving thunderstorm activity across most districts. Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of the eastern and central regions, while western districts are likely to see moderate to heavy showers.
