Rajasthan: Uniform Funds Stuck for 35% of Government School Students Over Jan Aadhaar Glitch

Bikaner: Uniform allowance meant for eligible students from Classes 1 to 8 in Rajasthan's government schools has run into a bureaucratic snag before it even reaches their bank accounts. Nearly 35 per cent of students across the state have not received their uniform funds because their bank accounts are not authenticated with Jan Aadhaar, the state's unique identity system.

According to officials, many parents have not yet enrolled for Jan Aadhaar, while in other cases, essential details such as names or dates of birth remain unupdated in existing Jan Aadhaar records. Separately, even among students whose accounts are authenticated, inactive bank accounts and incorrect IFSC codes are holding up payments.

Scheme Launched in July, Over 20 Lakh Students Paid So Far

The uniform distribution scheme was launched at the state level on 29th July through a single-click disbursal by the Chief Minister. Since then, direct benefit transfers (DBT) have been credited to more than 20 lakh students' accounts.

Under the Samagra Shiksha Annual Work Plan and Budget for 2026-27, Rs 24,390.312 lakh has been sanctioned for uniform DBT covering 40,65,052 eligible students in Classes 1 to 8. In addition, Rs 545.376 lakh has been provisioned for 90,896 students under the PM SHRI scheme. The concerned funds have already been transferred to the district and block levels.

65% of Accounts Authenticated, Says Shala Darpan Portal

Data from the Shala Darpan portal shows that around 65 per cent of student bank accounts in Rajasthan are authenticated with Jan Aadhaar, meaning the process is still pending for the remaining 35 per cent. Until authentication is completed, the DBT process cannot move forward for these students.

Districts Directed to Act Within a Timeframe

State Project Director and Commissioner Dr Rashmi Sharma has written to the Director of Education, asking that necessary instructions be issued to ADPC, District Education Officer, and CBEO offices across all districts. Officials have been directed to maximise Jan Aadhaar authentication of eligible students and resolve issues related to bank accounts and IFSC codes. The department has asked for time-bound action to address these gaps.
