Three construction workers lost their lives and three others sustained serious injuries on Monday after a structure under construction collapsed at a resort site near Chandwaji in Jaipur district, Rajasthan.
The incident occurred near Tala Mod on the Delhi Highway, at the Palace Aravalli Resort, where a sewage pit measuring approximately 100 feet in length, 30 feet in width, and 20 feet in depth had been excavated. Workers were engaged in repair and filling work at the site when, without warning, a large quantity of earth caved in and buried the labourers below. The victims are reported to be migrants from Bihar.
Eyewitnesses said that construction was ongoing on one side of the site while soil backfilling was being carried out on the other, when the ground gave way suddenly, trapping all six workers under the debris before they had any chance to escape.
The collapse triggered panic and chaos across the resort premises. Local villagers immediately alerted the Chandwaji police, and senior officers from both the police and the administration rushed to the scene. Rescue teams, assisted by residents, worked to clear the rubble and successfully retrieved all six buried workers.
Three of the men were declared dead by attending physicians. The three survivors, all in a critical condition, were transferred to the nearby NIMS Hospital, where they remain under medical care. The bodies of the deceased have been placed in the mortuary pending further proceedings.
The site contractor fled the scene in the immediate aftermath of the collapse and is currently being sought by authorities. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
