Raipur: Indian women's cricket team player Harleen Deol has said that steady hard work, discipline and self-belief are essential to succeed in life. She said there is no shortcut to success and that goals can be achieved only through dedication and regular practice.
Deol, who reached Raipur on Sunday, met players at the Hockey Academy and shared experiences from her sporting career. She urged them to dream of playing for the country.
Raipur visit for a practice match with teammates
Deol has come to Raipur to play a practice match with her fellow Himachal Pradesh players. During the visit, she interacted with the Hockey Academy players and encouraged them to move ahead in sport.
She said players should make full use of the sports facilities, training and guidance from coaches available to them. Setting big goals is important, she said, but so is making continuous efforts to achieve them.
Achieve goals through hard work and discipline
Deol told the players to work with full dedication for their goals. She expressed confidence that those who make sincere efforts do succeed.
She advised the children to practise regularly, maintain discipline and believe in their own ability. Talent is important in sport, she said, but success cannot be sustained for long on talent alone. Hard work, patience and continuous practice are also needed.
Players should identify their weaknesses and work on them, and try to improve their performance every day, she added.
Dream of playing for the country
The Indian women's cricketer told the children not to shy away from big dreams. She asked them to believe in themselves and set the goal of becoming part of the Indian team and playing for the country. To progress in sport, she said, continuous hard work with confidence is necessary.
Deol asked the players to make proper use of the resources available to them and follow their coaches' instructions to sharpen their skills. Instead of being disheartened by early failures, they should learn from them and move forward. Regular practice and positive thinking can help players improve their performance, she said.
Autographs for the players
Deol spent time with the players at the Hockey Academy and encouraged them. She also signed autographs on the players' T-shirts. The children looked excited to meet an international-level cricketer.
Deol visited the Hockey Academy at the initiative of Deputy Chief Minister and Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Arun Sao and the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh. The aim of the meeting was to encourage the players and inspire them to perform better in sport.
The players got a chance to understand the importance of hard work, discipline and self-confidence from her experiences and message.
