President Donald Trump and Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer have clashed over record-high diesel prices in the United States, with Schumer accusing the president of wrongly blaming Ukraine for the surge while the real cause, he says, is Trump's war with Iran.
Senator Schumer took to social media platform X to reject Trump's claims outright. He wrote that Trump's latest falsehood is that Ukraine is responsible for diesel prices reaching record levels. Schumer said the American public knows well that the real reason behind rising prices is Trump and his war with Iran. He added that no amount of finger-pointing and lying by Trump could hide the devastation this has caused to the economy.
The dispute began after Trump publicly appealed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy not to target Russian energy facilities. Speaking to reporters during a visit to Ireland, Trump said Zelenskyy needed to stop destroying diesel fuel installations in Russia. He said he had spoken to Zelenskyy on the matter and advised him to choose other targets instead, since attacks on diesel fuel facilities were harming the entire world.
