Mahasamund: Students from economically weaker sections have an opportunity to get a scholarship. Applications have been invited for the 2026-27 academic session under the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS). The scheme is run by the Department of School Education and Literacy of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Under it, eligible students studying in Class 8 are given scholarships.

Apply by 23 October

The Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education will conduct the scholarship examination. Interested students can submit their applications at their respective schools till 23 October 2026. The application process is free of cost. Students can apply both offline and online.

Economically weaker students to benefit

The aim of the scheme is to encourage meritorious students from economically weaker sections to continue their studies. It plays an important role in reducing the obstacles that financial reasons create in education and in motivating students towards learning. Under the scheme, eligible Class 8 students get the opportunity to be selected for the scholarship. For this, they must apply as per the prescribed procedure and appear in the examination.

Applications to be submitted at school

District Education Officer BL Devangan said applications have been invited from eligible students for the 2026-27 academic session. He said interested students should submit their applications at their respective schools within the prescribed time limit. The last date for applying is 23 October 2026.

Students and parents have been advised to complete the process in good time instead of waiting for the last day. For details on eligibility, required documents and other conditions, students can contact their school.

Keep the deadline in mind

Students who wish to take the scholarship examination must take special note of the last date. Whether applications will be accepted after 23 October will become clear only from the relevant official instructions. Eligible students should therefore submit their applications on time and focus on preparing for the examination.
