Class 5 Student Allegedly Beaten With Stick for Forgetting Notebook in Nagaur, Rajasthan; Teacher Arrested

Nagaur: A teacher at a private school in Gogelav, near Nagaur city, has been arrested after a Class 5 student was allegedly beaten with a stick for forgetting to bring a notebook from home. A case has been registered against the teacher, Jagdish Prasad, at Sadar police station on the report of the student's father. Police have arrested him on a breach of peace charge.

The family took the child to a government hospital, where he was treated and sent home.

According to police, the student, Himanshu's, father, Gordhanram, along with villagers, first lodged a complaint with the Panchayat Elementary Education Officer (PEEO) of Gogelav on Monday. They then went to the District Education Officer (DEO) office and demanded action against the private school and the teacher.

After receiving no satisfactory response there, villagers led by Ravi Bothra went to Nagaur and submitted a complaint to the District Collector. The Collector referred them to Nagaur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jatin Jain, who directed Sadar Station House Officer Kitab Devi to register a case and take action. The villagers then went to Sadar police station and submitted a report, on which the case was registered at night.

The incident took place at a private school in Gogelav village, Nagaur district. On 26 September, the teacher allegedly beat the Class 5 student with a stick.

The child was reportedly so frightened that he did not tell his family. The next day, as the pain increased, he informed them. The family was shocked to see marks on his body, with more than 20 stick marks on the child.

The child told his family that he had forgotten his notebook at home. He said this angered the teacher, who beat him brutally.

The incident has caused anger among the family and villagers. Police registered a case on the family's complaint and arrested the teacher on a breach of peace charge. Police are investigating the matter.
