A 37-year-old man was robbed of Rs 11,000 in cash while returning home on foot from a temple in Guna district, Madhya Pradesh, in the second such robbery to occur at the same spot within a fortnight.
The victim, Rakesh Jatav, a resident of the Banskhedi Cantt area in Guna, filed a report at the Ruthiyai police outpost stating that he was walking back from Gader Shivalaya temple at around 4:30 pm after offering prayers. As he approached the Borkheda forest junction near Green Mountain in the Gader area, his phone rang. He stepped to the side of the road to take the call when two unidentified men, aged between 25 and 30, suddenly emerged from the forest.
According to Jatav, one of the attackers had his face covered with a cloth while the other's face was visible. The man with the uncovered face moved first and began attacking him. Before he could react, both men grabbed him, searched his clothing, and took Rs 11,000 in cash from his shirt pocket before fleeing back into the forest.
Jatav told police he attempted to chase the attackers but lost sight of them, as the area was thick with monsoon-season vegetation.
Dharnavada police have registered a case based on the complaint and have begun searching for the accused using the description provided by the victim.
Police said robberies have been on the rise in this stretch. Around 15 days earlier, at the same location, an engineer and his fiancée were reportedly stopped, beaten, robbed, and subjected to a gangrape. Despite that incident, security in the area was not stepped up, and the same stretch of road has now seen another robbery within just 15 days.
