Guna: After Teachers, Now Class 9th to 12th Students’ Attendance to Be Recorded Online in MP Government Schools

After introducing online attendance for teachers, the Madhya Pradesh government has now decided to extend the same system to students. The Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) has issued instructions for online attendance to be recorded for students studying in classes 9th to 12th in government high schools and higher secondary schools across the state.

Unlike some other systems, no biometric machines or face recognition technology will be used to mark student attendance. Instead, class teachers themselves will record each student's presence directly on the Education Portal 3.0. The Guna District Education Officer (DEO) has confirmed the development.

According to DPI's instructions, the Student Management section of Education Portal 3.0 will include a "Student Attendance" option. This will display a list of students belonging to the relevant class. Teachers will mark each student as Present, Absent or On Leave, based on their actual status. Once the process is complete, the attendance record will be saved on the portal.

Extra classes planned for students with low attendance

The department has directed schools to analyse the online attendance data and plan additional classes and academic support for students with low attendance. Officials expect that regular monitoring of student attendance will help address gaps in learning and improve overall academic outcomes.

Attendance to be recorded section-wise

The online attendance process will be completed through section-wise entries for students. This means that for classes with multiple sections, the respective class teacher will record attendance for students of that particular section. The department believes that maintaining an online record will allow regular analysis of student attendance patterns, making it easier to identify students with consistently low attendance.

Teachers to record students' online attendance

Guna DEO Samar Singh Rathore said that the DPI has issued a letter regarding online attendance for students of classes 9th to 12th in high and higher secondary schools. "We have informed all principals in the district about this," he said, adding that student attendance will be recorded online through Education Portal 3.0.
