Bihar's state government has announced free bus travel for all students appearing in the NEET re-examination, giving candidates the right to board any Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) bus without charge on production of their admit card.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary made the announcement on Saturday. The measure is set to benefit lakhs of students across the state who face the additional cost of travelling to examination centres for the second time.
The NEET-UG examination, originally held on 3 May, was scrapped after a paper leak plunged the country's most competitive medical entrance test into controversy. The cancellation sparked fury among students who had spent months preparing for the exam.
With the re-examination now approaching, many candidates — particularly those from economically weaker backgrounds — had raised concerns over the financial strain of making the journey to their designated centres once again. Saturday's announcement directly addresses those concerns.
Under the scheme, students need only show their valid NEET admit card to the bus conductor to travel free of charge on any BSRTC-operated route.
The Bihar government's move has drawn widespread praise as a rare instance of swift administrative action in support of exam candidates caught up in a crisis not of their making.
