Panic gripped the administration in Baran, Rajasthan, on Thursday after the district collectorate once again received a threatening email claiming a bomb had been planted on the premises. As soon as the alert was received, the collectorate complex was evacuated and police cordoned off the entire area, tightening security arrangements.
A dog squad and bomb disposal team were called to the site, and a thorough search of the premises is currently under way. No suspicious object has been confirmed as found so far.
Third such threat this year
This is the third threatening email received by the Baran district collectorate in 2026. The first such email arrived on 4 April 2026, followed by a second on 6 May 2026. The second email had referred to blowing up the collectorate using a "human bomb" and had also contained bizarre instructions, including one stating that anyone wearing a red saree or red shirt should not be allowed inside.
On that occasion too, the administration had evacuated the collectorate and had it thoroughly checked by security agencies. Following the latest email, police and administrative officials have gone on high alert. Security agencies are working to trace the sender of the email, and an investigation into the matter is under way.
