Sri Ganganagar: A joint team of police, the Border Security Force (BSF) and CID has recovered one kilogram of heroin about two kilometres inside the India-Pakistan international border in Srikaranpur area. The narcotic was found in two packets in a field of Chak 23 O Rohi, amid a mustard crop. Going by the structure of the packets, it is suspected that they were dropped by a drone. Police have registered a case against unidentified smugglers under the NDPS Act and begun an investigation.
District Superintendent of Police Hari Shankar said action against drug trafficking and illegal weapons is being taken continuously under Operation Seema Sankalp, which is being run to make the district drug-free. The action in the border area was taken under the same campaign.
On Sunday morning, BSF's Naggi border post reported suspicious activity around Chak 23 O in Sri Ganganagar district. A police team led by Srikaranpur SHO Seer Kaur then reached the spot. A joint search operation was carried out with BSF 118th Battalion Assistant Commandant LG Suresh Babu, CID Zone Srikaranpur constable Rohitash Kumar and other personnel.
At around 1 pm, during the search, two yellow packets were found in Ramesh Bawari's field, amid a young mustard crop. Red tape was stuck on the packets. Metal rings and pipe-like objects were also attached to them. A preliminary inspection raised the suspicion that they were dropped by a drone.
