Unnao road accident, sleeper bus crash

Serious accident on Agra Expressway in Unnao, 5 dead

Five members of a family died and eight others were injured after a speeding sleeper bus collided with a car on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Unnao district, Uttar Pradesh, in the early hours of Wednesday.

The accident occurred at around 4:30 am within the limits of Bangarmau police station when the bus, travelling at high speed, rammed into an Ertiga car moving ahead of it. The impact was so severe that the bus veered off the expressway, toppling over after losing control.

All five occupants of the car were killed instantly at the scene, while at least eight passengers travelling in the bus sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the bus driver may have dozed off at the wheel, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The bus was reportedly travelling from Haryana to Bihar at the time of the crash.

Police and rescue teams reached the site soon after being alerted and worked to clear the wreckage to restore traffic flow. The bodies of the deceased have been taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination, while officials continue to probe the exact circumstances behind the crash.

Bangarmau Circle Officer Harsh Modi said the bus was carrying around 70 passengers, while the car had nine occupants at the time of the collision. Four people from the car and four bus passengers sustained injuries in the accident. Those with serious injuries were given first aid before being referred to the district hospital.

According to officials, the Haryana-bound sleeper bus, registered BR 06 PF 1024, struck the rear of the Ertiga car, registered UP 58 AK 3461, which was travelling from Lucknow towards Agra. The collision left the car severely damaged.

The deceased have been identified as Dhunmun (60), Anju (40), Divya (6), Amrita (13) and Vinod (45). Bangarmau police, assisted by local residents, launched a rescue operation soon after the crash. The injured were pulled from the wreckage and taken to the Community Health Centre in Bangarmau, from where those in a critical condition were referred to the district hospital.

District Magistrate Ghanshyam Meena, Superintendent of Police Jai Prakash Singh and Bangarmau Sub-Divisional Magistrate Brijmohan Shukla visited the accident site to oversee relief operations. Police say a detailed investigation into the cause of the crash is under way, with driver fatigue currently being treated as the most likely factor, though other possibilities are also being examined. Families of the deceased have been informed.
