Yamuna express way accident

A horrific road accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, has left four passengers dead and around 20 others injured after a Volvo bus collided with a goods trailer on Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred between milestones 112 and 113 on the expressway, when the bus rammed into the rear of the trailer. The front section of the bus was completely mangled in the impact, with the wreckage embedding itself roughly two and a half metres into the trailer.

The bus was travelling from Lucknow to Delhi and was carrying 65 passengers at the time of the collision.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Suresh Chandra Rawat said the accident took place about two kilometres before the Raya cut. According to his account, a trailer loaded with stone chippings was travelling in its lane when the bus, having lost control, struck it from behind.

Following the collision, local residents alerted the police, and rescue operations were launched at the scene. Police control room received the report and dispatched a police response vehicle along with 12 ambulances to assist.

A green corridor was set up to ensure the injured could be rushed to hospital without delay, and none of those hurt are currently said to be in a critical condition. The injured have since been taken to the district hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggest the bus was travelling at excessive speed, with police attributing the crash to driver negligence. Fire services, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and district police teams remain at the site continuing further operations. Efforts are under way to identify the deceased, and their families are being notified.
